Resistance Training is the Boss!

When it comes to getting fit and healthy, it’s the Boss – and unlike so much else out there, it’s most definitely NOT a fad!

At LemonBody, we’ve been doing Resistance training from the very first BootCamp (nearly seven years ago!). Other sections of the Fitness Industry have been slower to catch on and for many years Jogging was held above all else as the key to Weight Loss. It’s NOT! (See my article on HIIT).

Resistance Training simply involves working your muscles against a resistance. This can be anything, but it needs to be difficult to be effective. At BootCamp, we use Power Bags, Resistance Bands, Body Weight, Tractor Tyres, other People and just about anything else we can think of to work your muscles, HARD!

Here’s why: Modern lives and labour saving gadgets mean our muscles are under used most of the time. So we lose them. We become weaker, less toned, less able, more prone to injury and we begin storing more Body Fat. Bummer..

Next week, I’ll explain why your body does this, but for now just remember that you’ll be losing muscle and strength every day after your 25th birthday unless you do something about it. And the older you get, the worse it gets – just look around at most 40 somethings next time you’re at the beach…

The good news is that you can keep your muscles strong and healthy (and look more toned and yummy) by including lots of Resistance Training into your Workout regime – just like we do at BootCamp! And it starts to work almost straight away – within 3 weeks, it can make you 30% stronger! Really! And it’s for boys and girls! Forget about “bulking up” ladies – most guys can’t even do it so you won’t!

Many of you will be familiar with that “burn” feeling in your muscles when you work them hard (you’ll certainly feel it during your BootCamp Workout). You should seek  the “burn” and learn to embrace it because the burn tells your muscles to get stronger!

A lot of people say they aren’t interested in getting stronger; they just want to lose weight, get toned and look better. Want to know a secret? Resistance Training is THE KEY to all of these things! Strong muscles help you burn Fat. Strong muscles will make you toned and look better too. And here’s another thing: Resistance Training burns LOADS of Calories – even when you’re NOT Training! How the heck does it do that? You’ll have to wait until next week’s article to find out! Get along to BootCamp and feel the “burn”!
